Hey, Everyone!
I've joined TextBroker.com!
One of the requirements, in order for me to join, was to write them a 120-250 word "article" from a random topic of their choosing. I got "Write about sightseeing in your city." This is what I wrote:
The rumble of trains as they speed down the nearby train tracks, the roar of airplanes as they fly overhead, the meows of feral cats and the barks and howls of lost dogs, the off-key tinkling of so-called "music" from passing ice-cream trucks, and the constant crying of babies born to teen mothers... These are the sounds of my city. Sun Valley, a once fairly "nice," yet rural, town is now a flat wasteland of the surrounding cities "unwanted" members of society. Its story is reminiscent of what Bruce Springsteen sings about in his classic song, "My Hometown": Boarded up windows, vacant stores, and a lack of jobs. Pairs of shoes tied together by their laces litter the overhead power lines, signifying the meeting locales for the various drug deals common to this area. Pointed metal fences surround each house and motion-sensor lights turn on at the slightest provocation, spotlighting any passers-by out for an evening stroll. Vagrants wander aimlessly, and often stop to dig through the trashcans belonging to the residential homes. My advice to sightseers who have come to my city? Go elsewhere.
What do you think?
